Soziotechnics – Sozialtechnologie

Sociotechnics is a word that sound strange to ears accustomed to English. It needs explanation and this book is intended to explain it. It is not just a shorthand for the application of social science to social problems. That is its focus certainly, but it is above all a quest for a methodology of bringing the knowledge and concept of the social sciences to bear on human and social issues. There has been surprisingly little serious work of this kind, and what there has been has had low visibility.

The confrontation of a sociological tradition with an Eastern European form of socialist society, precipitated in Poland, a search for a solution to the problems of relating social science to society. For over ten years Polish sociologists and other social scientists met under the leadership of Adam Podgorecki and engaged in research and discussion leading to the publication of numerous books and articles, mostly available only in Polish.”
